Humble, TX and Atascocita, TX
This project includes two David Weekley Homes developments near Houston, Texas: Eagle Springs and Waterhaven. These two developments are located in Humble and Atascocita, Texas and consist of one- or two-story single-family houses between 1800 and 3500 square feet and three to six bedrooms. The project is located in DOE climate zone 2A, which is a hot-humid climate. When built-out, Eagle Springs will contain 36 houses, and Waterhaven will contain 112 houses.
Jamaica Plain, MA
The retrofit project included new fiber cement siding installed over exterior insulation, new high performance windows, a conditioned basement, improved insulation at the attic and roof, and improved air tightness.

Habitat for Humanity North Central Massachusetts received this circa 1900 property as a donation from the Town of Lancaster. The building had been in a state of significant deterioration, yet preserving the footprint and first floor framing was essential to preserving the ability of Habitat to provide a home on the otherwise non-conforming lot. BSC collaborated with Greencraft Builders in Lewisville, TX on a 2009 prototype house called the TimberCreek Net Zero Energy House. This house demonstrates the energy efficiency and durability upgrades that Greencraft has been promoting for years. This Cape Cod style house was built in 1953. While the owners had made interior improvements and necessary repairs in the 25 years since they purchased the house, they now wanted to do some exterior upgrades and at the same time tighten up the house in keeping with their long-standing goal of becoming energy efficient and reducing their impact on the environment.
The retrofit project for this home included a comprehensive enclosure retrofit and new heating, cooling and ventilation systems. The current owner purchased this bank-owned and unoccupied home in 2010 with the intention of conducting significant energy performance improvements prior to occupancy. The National Grid Deep Energy Retrofit Pilot Program provided technical and financial assistance to extend these renovations to the level of a deep energy retrofit (DER).

The Green Dream 1 house is a joint project between Catholic Charities Archdiocese New Orleans’ program Operation Helping Hands (OHH), the Louisiana State University AgCenter’s Louisiana House Project (LaHouse), and Building Science Corporation (BSC) working with the Department of Energy’s Building America Program.

The Green Dream 2 is a single-family home built on the site of a hurricane-damaged house that stood for 3 years before being demolished by the city of New Orleans. Staff and students from Portland Community College met the homeowner and his family on a trip to New Orleans and wanted to help them by building a new home; one that would be durable, healthy, comfortable, energy-efficient and affordable. Portland Community College connected the homeowner with Catholic Charities Operation Helping Hands who, in turn, asked BSC and the LSU AgCenter to be a part of the team.
