State Change

Matter exists in three states: solid, liquid, and gas; a state change is a transition from one state to another. Examples include boiling/evaporation and condensation (liquid/gas); freezing and melting (solid/liquid); and sublimation/frost formation (solid/gas). Energy must be absorbed or released into the material for a state change to occur.
